Melbourne's weather gets a bad rap. But personally, I love it. I love the unpredictability of it. I'm not one for routine (as evidenced by my son's sleeping habits) and so I really enjoy the anticipation of what might come next. I love early spring here, when the cold days are interspersed by random days of warmth and sunshine. And then weird days like today... perfectly warm, but with dark skies and heavy wind and the promise of both rain and hot days ahead.

But anyway, enough about the weather. Spring is here and inevitably, I have the urge to purge. I took a bag of clothes to the op shop this morning and now I'm having trouble looking past the accumulated clutter, dirty windows and bathroom tiles that need scrubbing.
But I find it hard to get things done. Not just because the little poppet is demanding, and well, a baby. But because I've always been someone who works well under pressure - the busier I am, the more productive I am. I think most of us are like that. And having a baby is a different sort of busy. I'm constantly "on" but  I'm not actually doing that much. And I'm definitely not under much pressure, other than to get my boobs out on demand (by the baby in case you were thinking otherwise). So I find it hard to get motivated and productive. Hard to just get started.

Any one else with little ones feel like this?

** this picture has nothing to do with anything really, other than impending summer. It's the gorgeous region where hubby is from in France. *sigh*

baby quilt

wow. I had forgotten how good it feels to be creative. These last couple of weeks - during minutes snatched here and there - I've been rummaging through fabrics, measuring and cutting, machine and hand sewing and it feels GOOD.
And I've completed a little baby blanket - the first of a few methinks. It's a simple design but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The photos don't quite capture it, but you get the idea...

skies

Today we are getting on a jetplane, heading into the skies and then landing down in another city for a few days. Papa is on a course for work and so we're going over to visit. Going to hang out in a swanky apartment paid for by his work (orright), go for exploratory walks, hopefully stumble upon a nice cafe or two, check out the markets and generally revel in the new...

dreamer

Such a curious little thing... he loves staring out at the sky and the streets and the setting sun.

Hope you all had a good weekend, enjoy a good week ahead, and if you're in Melbourne - relish this early Spring balmy weather!

getting my craft on

SO.
After 8 months, I'm getting crafty again. Leo is now (thank god) having better naps during the day and is actually staying asleep once he goes to bed at night (believe me, sleep has not always been our friend in this house). So finally I am actually able to get some things done other than just washing the dishes and getting dinner ready.
I had a slight meltdown recently which I realised was due to the lack of having any real time to myself and the lack of any creative outlet. And so, I am now making time. While Leo naps or when he goes to bed, I am getting my craft on and producing something. Baby quilts in fact. I may even have myself a stall at a Christmas market come december, just as motivation. But for now it just feels good to be doing something that's not baby related.

And as an added bonus, what do you know, measuring tapes make good toys...

this weekend...

'Twas a wild and woolly return to winter this weekend. What better time to visit the beach house and take some long walks, catch up on some newspaper reading, meet the neighbourhood dogs and rug up with a strong red in front of the fire?!

I left Leo with my mum for a couple of hours yesterday, and rushed off on a mission... to buy some new clothes. I'm DESPERATE. I'm still wearing tops with stretched tummies that I wore when pregnant. ugh.
However, two words: Utter. Failure.

I have no idea what clothes I like anymore. Nor what suits me. I don't like a lot of what I see in the shops, but I can't seem to find things in second hand shops either. Argh. Help. I need a stylist. Anyone know someone who'll come and give me a free consultation?!!
